Texas State Technical College in Harlingen has established this Cyber Center to fully endorse the National Security Agency [NSA] and the Department of Homeland Security [DHS] jointly sponsored National National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense [CAE/CD] for Two-Year Education (CAE-2Y).

The Computer Networking and Security Technology, Associate of Applied Science degree is a two-year curriculum that provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to
- Operate and maintain network systems
- Implement security controls required to safeguard computer network infrastructures
- Respond to computer security breaches
Emphasis is critical/analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and teamwork, in a hands-on lab environment
Technical courses are based on the following skills standards:
- Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM)
- Texas Skills Standards Board (TSSB) (Cyber Security Skill Standards), Texas Workforce Investment Council (TWIC)
- NSA/DHS National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense [CDE/CD] two-year core Knowledge Units (KUs).

The Texas State Technical College System mission is defined by the Texas State Legislature and published in Vernon’s Texas Education Code Section 135.01: Texas State Technical College System is a coeducational two-year institution of higher education offering courses of study in technical vocational education for which there is demand within the State of Texas. Texas State Technical College System shall contribute to the educational and economic development of the State of Texas by offering occupationally oriented programs with supporting academic course work, emphasizing highly specialized advanced and emerging technical and vocational areas for certificates or associate degrees.
