General Academic Electives
Students in Technical Programs at TSTC must earn 15 credits from the General Academic Core of Classes. To meet SACS guidelines, each degree must have a minimum of 15 semester hours in general education. The 15 hours of general education must include at least one course in each of the three areas shown in the table below (Courses are transferable to other public colleges or universities):
Coursework Credit
Students transferring to TSTC can receive transfer credit for some courses taken or attempt to “test out” of a course.
- Transfer Credit / Course Substitution SOS: ES.4.07 No: 3.07
Official transcripts from all previously attended college-level institutions must be submitted to Office of Admissions and Records regardless of whether transfer credit is wanted or not.
If transfer credit or substitution credit is desired, the student must submit copies of all college transcripts and evaluation of that credit will be completed by the Advisor during the student’s first term of enrollment.
- Credit by Examination SOS: 2.10 No: 7.57A student wishing to test out of a Computer Networking & Security Technology course should make appropriate arrangements, with their advisor and the Office of Admissions (fee payment), no later than two (2) weeks before the beginning of the semester. Upon payment for required Credit by Examination policy fees at the Business Office, the student will be allowed to take a departmental exam for the requested course, delivered and graded by program faculty. After successfully passing said exam, the student will be awarded credit for the course by the program chairperson’s completion and submission to the Office of Admissions and Records of a “Credit by Examination” form detailing the course(s) for which Credit by Examination is being requested.
